Abstract

Canine hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a rare primary cardiac condition associated with congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and sudden death. This study aimed to review the clinical management of this disease in dogs, with emphasis on diagnostic methods, prognostic factors, and therapeutic perspectives. This is a narrative literature review of recent literature on the subject. The analysis of the studies demonstrated that the management of canine hypertrophic cardiomyopathy depends on accurate echocardiographic diagnosis, complemented by biomarkers such as cardiac troponin I, useful in clinical stratification. Furthermore, genetic advances, such as the identification of variants associated with the disease in certain breeds, contribute to screening and prognostic evaluation. The presence of arrhythmias and the involvement of molecular pathways related to myocardial remodeling also influence clinical management and point to new therapeutic possibilities. The management of canine hypertrophic cardiomyopathy should be individualized, based on careful diagnosis, risk stratification, and continuous monitoring. Further studies are needed to consolidate more effective diagnostic and therapeutic protocols.
