Abstract

This article was part of the extension area of the Geography degree course and served as the basis for a lecture that addressed the importance of Astronomy as a partner of Geography in the cultural and religious formation of populations, in mobility, navigation, the study of tides, and the economy. In it, I conducted a bibliographic review of relevant articles and theses, as well as using knowledge acquired in courses and conferences, which helped me understand how it is possible to apply these concepts in the transmission of knowledge. With this in mind, I created an ebook for the aforementioned lecture, which was presented in a residential condominium in São Gonçalo, located in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, and was attended by approximately 40 residents representing all age groups, educational levels, and genders. This heterogeneous audience was important to understand that the topic is interesting and can be worked on in the classroom with all groups of students. Although I did not specifically address how Astronomy and Geography work together, this union was present, and the geographical perspective was always present in the work. With the aid of the Stellarium application (which we used as a guide), we observed the planetary alignment, stars, and constellations with the naked eye. To conclude, we discussed the knowledge transmitted and the experience of celestial observation.
