This critical-theoretical chapter is the result of a final course paper submitted to Paulista University (UNIP) as a partial requirement for obtaining a bachelor's degree in Social Work. It analyzes the contributions of Social Work to the promotion of citizenship in the educational sphere, highlighting that its historical insertion dates back to the beginning of the 20th century and that, in Brazil, its work is consolidated especially in public educational institutions, with an emphasis on guaranteeing access, retention, and success for students. Based on the ethical-political project of the profession, the text shows that the work of the social worker should not be restricted to the socioeconomic dimension, but should encompass the defense of rights, the strengthening of democracy, and civic education. In this sense, the professional acts in mediating the expressions of the social question, in articulation with the school community, and in encouraging participation in collegiate bodies and spaces of social control. The possibilities of working in advisory and consulting roles are also highlighted, as well as the historical challenges of the profession, such as its reduction to welfare practices. In contrast, a critical approach is advocated, guided by an understanding of structural inequalities and committed to social transformation. It can be concluded that the educational space constitutes a privileged field for Social Work, allowing interventions that contribute to the emancipation of people, the expansion of citizenship, and the construction of a more just and democratic society.
