This article is a systematic review of gamification applied in biology classes. The guiding question is: How has gamification been applied in biology in Brazilian basic education? The research analyzed scientific productions published between 2018 and 2022 on the following websites: BVS, Periódico Capes, and BDTD. The general objective is to investigate the practice of gamification in Brazilian basic education in the biology discipline, using structured descriptors in DeCS and MeSH. Data collection took place in August 2023. Scientific articles, dissertations, and theses related to the topic and published less than five years ago were included. Exclusion criteria were scientific articles, dissertations, and theses that did not address the topic of gamification in society and schools. Given the above, we conclude that the application of gamification in biology is an alternative methodology that is increasingly gaining ground in schools, as it proposes to transform teaching and learning. It also demonstrates that gamification can be applied in a variety of ways, fostering dynamic learning and youth empowerment.
