This project was conducted with 9th-grade elementary school students from a municipal public school in São Miguel dos Campos, Alagoas. Organic waste from school meals was converted into organic fertilizer, which was then used to address environmental issues through the process of composting and treating organic solid waste. This fertilizer was then used to apply environmental education to reduce food waste, reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, educate students on the importance of environmental preservation in promoting sustainability, and generate economic benefits. This practice is essential for schools to adopt as part of their routines, contributing to a more sustainable future.
