Currently, populations, especially urban ones, face problems related to the scarcity of drinking water, both in terms of quality and quantity, due to irregular rainfall—the main source of water supply in river basins—and also due to deficient water resource management. This article aims to present studies that address economically and environmentally viable strategies for developing reuse projects, addressing the issues of managing and reducing the effluent load in the sewage system. This study included research on scientific articles published in the last five years in the Capes Journal, using an integrative systematic review. This research question was based on the following guiding question: What socioeconomic and environmental advantages can water reuse generate? Based on the research data, it was concluded that reuse systems constitute a water resource management tool, as they reduce water demand from water sources and minimize effluent runoff into the sewage system.
