Abstract

This project analyzes the importance of reading as a social practice in the context of Basic Education, highlighting the role of family, school, and community in the formation of readers. The "Traveling Suitcase" proposal consists of sending literary books to the homes of students from the 1st to the 5th grade, promoting moments of shared reading between students and their families. It starts from the understanding that reading should not be restricted to the school environment, but should be extended to the daily lives of students, strengthening affective and cultural bonds. In this context, the use of pedagogical practices that involve family participation contributes to making the teaching-learning process more meaningful, stimulating, and integrated into the student's reality. The project, with a qualitative approach, shows that the interaction between school and family favors the development of reading, orality, writing, and imagination, in addition to encouraging student protagonism. By articulating reading, family life, and community participation, students expand their cultural repertoire and develop essential skills for their education. Furthermore, the teacher's role as a mediator in organizing and monitoring the proposed activities is highlighted. It is concluded that the "Traveling Suitcase" is an effective strategy for promoting a love of reading and strengthening the partnership between school and family.
