Abstract

The Modern School was a progressive pedagogical movement inspired by anarchism in the early 20th century, giving rise to libertarian pedagogy in Brazil. Opposing any form of oppression and domination in society and advocating for a more supportive, egalitarian, and free community, anarchists believed in a school institution free from the power of the State or the Church. They began to champion the idea of democratic education in the country, seeking to implement this in schools until the movement's end. In this context, this study aimed to understand how the Modern School influenced Brazilian education and its contributions to this education. A bibliographical search was conducted based on scientific articles published in Google Scholar, SciELO, and other related education and pedagogy journals and magazines. The conclusion was that the Modern School influences and contributes to contemporary Brazilian education by promoting pedagogical models that seek to create increasingly innovative learning environments.
