TEACHING FIRST AND SECOND DEGREE EQUATIONS USING THE HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS

Teaching first- and second-degree equations represents an essential milestone in students' mathematical education, as it introduces fundamental concepts for problem-solving and the development of algebraic thinking. To make this learning more meaningful, it is essential that teachers utilize various teaching resources, including the History of Mathematics. Therefore, based on bibliographical research, this article discusses how people from India, Egypt, Babylon, Greece, Arabs, and Europe worked with equations. The objective is to demonstrate the development of mathematical knowledge over the years and present suggestions for activities that can be used during class. By bringing these historical elements into the classroom, teachers not only contextualize mathematical concepts but also highlight mathematics as a human construct, linked to different cultures and social needs.
