Abstract

The National Education Plan (PNE) constitutes an essential State policy for the organization and development of Brazilian education, establishing ten-year goals for improving quality and ensuring universal access to education. This paper discusses the progress and challenges in implementing the 2014–2024 PNE. The importance of continuous monitoring, carried out by INEP, and collaboration among federal entities is highlighted to ensure the right to education guaranteed by the 1988 Federal Constitution and regulated by the Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education (LDB). The extension of the PNE to 2025 reinforces the need for adjustments in educational public policies to overcome obstacles and foster educational development. Finally, it is emphasized that building an inclusive, democratic, and high-quality educational system requires recognition of Brazil’s cultural and social diversity and the engagement of civil society in defending education as a public good.
