Resumen

La retinopatía diabética es una de las principales complicaciones microvasculares de la diabetes mellitus y una de las causas más frecuentes de pérdida de visión prevenible en adultos en edad laboral a nivel mundial. El desarrollo de la enfermedad está relacionado con el deterioro progresivo de los vasos sanguíneos de la retina y puede evolucionar de forma asintomática durante largos periodos, lo que subraya la importancia del diagnóstico precoz y el seguimiento oftalmológico regular (GOMES et al., 2015).
