Electrocardiogram, Medical Education, Professional CompetenceAbstract
Background: The interpretation of the 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is an essential skill in medical practice, yet it remains a challenge for medical students and non-specialist health care professionals. The absence of a systematic method contributes to diagnostic errors and uncertainty in reading ECG tracings. Objectives: To present the FFREIIA method as a structured and didactic educational approach for sequential ECG interpretation, aiming to facilitate learning and critical analysis of electrocardiographic findings by healthcare trainees. Methods: The FFREIIA method was developed based on clinical guidelines and relevant literature, organizing ECG analysis into seven logical steps: Form, Frequency, Rhythm, Electrical Axis, Intervals, Ischemia/Infarction, and Alterations. Results: The method is effective as a pedagogical tool, enhancing integrated understanding of ECG parameters. It allows a clear and safe analysis of tracings, with accurate identification of both normal and pathological findings. Conclusions: FFREIIA is a promising strategy for training healthcare professionals, promoting autonomy, diagnostic reasoning, and accuracy in ECG interpretation. Its stepwise structure provides didactic support both in academic settings and clinical practice, particularly for non-specialists.
