Abstract

The development of analytical competencies constitutes a fundamental axis in the scientific training of future chemistry teachers. This study analyzes their strengthening through a formative experience based on the photocatalytic removal of acetaminophen in synthetic wastewater using TiO₂ as a catalyst. The research was conducted with undergraduate Chemistry students at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (Colombia), through an experiential learning approach articulated with Kolb’s model and the analytical competencies framework of Torres-Salcedo. Methodologically, it was structured in three phases: initial diagnosis, experimental implementation, and subsequent evaluation. The results showed progress at a medium-high level in the interpretation of experimental data, establishment of relationships between variables, formulation of hypotheses, and scientific argumentation based on evidence. A significant improvement was observed in the ability to analyze quantitative results and in the understanding of complex physicochemical processes. The experience allowed the integration of knowledge from environmental chemistry, chemical kinetics, and instrumental analysis in an applied context. However, limitations were identified in the deepening of critical analysis in some students and in the autonomous formulation of explanatory models. It is concluded that this type of experimental strategy favors the development of analytical competencies; however, future efforts should strengthen metacognitive reflection processes and the transfer of knowledge to new problem contexts.
