Abstract

Learning is a social and cultural phenomenon that begins well before a child begins school. It is in the home, with their family, in their daily lives, and through their habits that a child's learning begins. This research sought to analyze the scientific literature on the relationship between family reading habits and their potential influence on child development. It analyzed scientific works published between 2015 and 2019 in the journals SciELO, CAPES, MEDLINE, and LILACS. This is a systematic, integrative literature review using structured descriptors in DeCS and MeSH. Data collection took place between September and December 2019. Scientific articles were included, and articles that did not address the topic under study were excluded. The aim is to understand how families can influence a child's reading habits and, especially, their development.
