Specialized Educational Assistance (AEE) is established as a fundamental pedagogical space for promoting learning, developing skills, and fostering autonomy among students who are the target audience of Special Education. This article aims to discuss the role of AEE as an intentional environment for pedagogical interventions that value individual potential and respect students’ singularities. The discussion highlights that AEE, when articulated with mainstream education, contributes to greater participation, independence, and student protagonism in school and social contexts. The importance of individualized pedagogical planning, qualified teacher mediation, and the use of pedagogical resources and assistive technologies is emphasized as strategies that support cognitive, social, communicative, and functional development. Furthermore, continuous assessment of the learning process allows for constant adjustments in pedagogical practices, ensuring coherence between objectives, interventions, and outcomes. The study also addresses challenges present in daily AEE practice, such as the need for ongoing professional development, effective collaboration between AEE, regular classrooms, and families, as well as adequate structural conditions. It is concluded that AEE, grounded in inclusive principles and reflective practices, plays a decisive role in the formation of more autonomous, participatory individuals capable of fully exercising their citizenship.
