Abstract

This chapter analyzes the benefits and risks associated with children and adolescents' participation in sports activities, focusing on early specialization and its impacts on physical, psychological, and social health. Recent literature (2020–2025) reinforces that, although sports promote physical growth, motor development, and socialization, unplanned practice or focusing exclusively on one sport increases the risk of injury, stress, and sports dropout. The text discusses national and international evidence, highlighting the importance of sports pedagogy and sports diversification as essential strategies for ensuring healthy and sustainable development.
