The implementation of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Piauí (IFPI) in the municipality of José de Freitas is part of the process of internalizing vocational, scientific, and technological education in Brazil, aimed at reducing educational inequalities and strengthening territorial development. This article critically analyzes the educational, productive, and territorial impacts of IFPI’s activities in the municipality, from its establishment in 2014 to its recent institutional consolidation, with particular emphasis on the creation of the undergraduate program in Agricultural Engineering. The study adopts a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach, based on bibliographic review, documentary analysis, and contextual interpretation of institutional and territorial data. The findings indicate that IFPI has expanded access to high-quality public education, especially for young people from rural areas, promoted technical and higher education in agricultural fields, and contributed to the dissemination of scientific knowledge applied to local productive practices. However, these impacts are neither homogeneous nor automatic, as they depend on the articulation between educational training, public policies, technical assistance, and regional productive dynamics. It is concluded that IFPI acts as a relevant agent of territorial development in José de Freitas, although its effects rely on integrated strategies and broader public policies.
