Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the sugar and fat content of industrialized foods commonly consumed by adolescents and to propose healthier homemade alternatives. Seven industrialized products were randomly selected by the students, including sweet cookies, corn snacks, ready-made cakes, soft drinks, and sweetened beverages. The analysis of nutritional labels and ingredient lists allowed the identification of the levels of free sugars and saturated fats present in these foods, which are frequently consumed by adolescents. The dietary pattern of this age group is characterized by a high intake of industrialized foods, which directly impacts health by increasing the consumption of sugars, fats, and sodium, thereby elevating the risk of metabolic changes and chronic diseases. Based on the analysis, students developed three homemade preparations prioritizing natural and minimally processed ingredients, and their sensory acceptance was tested with family members, showing positive results. These findings indicate that culinary practice, combined with critical label reading, constitutes an effective strategy for nutritional education and health promotion, encouraging healthier food choices and reducing the consumption of ultra-processed foods among adolescents.
